Mini Guide to Brugge · Travel Journal Series

Over the next few weeks I'm going to be sharing chapters from my travel journal.
Before I go on my little adventures I always go hunting for little guides and blogs so I can plan my trip. Usually these are far too long for my goldfish-like attention span. As such, my posts will be short and sweet. With a sprinkling of journal pages and photography.
Got it? Lovely, let's crack on!

DESTINATION: Brugge, Belgium
WHO IS IT FOR?
Couples or friends.
WHEN TO GO?
Summer (similar weather to the UK) or Christmas (markets and a whole load of prettiness).
WHAT WOULD YOU GO FOR?
Drinking beer. Eating your weight in chocolate. A relaxed city break (yes, it's possible).

HOW LONG TO GO FOR?
3 days would be perfect. You'll fit everything in with a Friday to Sunday trip and not feel you've missed out on anything. Winner.
HOW TO GET THERE?
Eurostar from St Pancras. Less hassle than flying. Cheap tickets if you grab them in advance. Less than 2 hours to Brussels and then, from the same station, take a train to Brugge. It takes less than an hour and costs a lovely €15. No need to book in advance as it's the same price on the day (UK, please take note!).

10 THINGS TO DO:
1. HIRE A BIKE
This was by far my favourite thing we did (despite being a complete liability on a bike). Do this on your first day and you'll get to know the city quickly. Expect to pay around €12 for 2 hours. Explore the old town, the outskirts and go to...
2. SEE THE WINDMILLS
It will take you on a route all the way around the city. Plus, if you've got the energy, climb to the top of each for beautiful views.
3. TAKE A CANAL BOAT
Second favourite thing we did. Gorgeous views, super relaxing and good value at €8 per person. Be prepared, they pack you in to these boats. Let's just call it cosy. Tour guides speak 3 languages and will give you little historical facts along the way. Ours sounded like Wall-E which gave me the giggles big time. Anyway, next up...
4. VISIT THE PICASSO MUSEUM
Mainly lino prints and etchings. Not as good as the Picasso Musuems in Barcelona or Malaga, but still worth a visit.
5. ENJOY THE DALI MUSEUM
Situated on the Market Square. As curiously bizarre as you would hope for. Get a double ticket for the Dali & Picas
so to save some €€€.

6. HIT THE MARKET SQUARE
Fabulous architecture, colourful buildings, perfect for people watching and some IG ready photo opps.
7. EXPLORE THE STREETS
Some say it feels like Venice, I thought it was more Amsterdam-ish. Either way, it's a joy to wander aimlessly here with gems around every corner.
8. EAT A BELGIAN WAFFLE
Or two. Or three. Strawberries and chocolate on top was an absolute dream.
9. STUFF YOURSELF WITH CHOCOLATE
Yes, it's an order. Belgium is famous for Chocolate so it'd be pretty rude not to. There are chocolate shops EVERYWHERE here, seriously. You may feel like all your Christmas' have come at once.
10. RELAX AT THE 2BE BEER WALL
Beer - another thing Belgium is famous for. You will find every possible type of beer under the sun at this bar. As I'm a wine not beer drinker, I went for Coconut Beer served in an actual coconut (super cute). Wonderful views of the canal and so relaxing, which perfectly sums up this adorable, fairytale like city.
